Project specifications

If you’ve been out to Sherman Field lately, you’ve noticed that it looks quite a bit different than it did even 2-3 months ago! We asked JJ Yost of the Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department to give us this construction update.

Construction at Sherman Field in Lincoln, Nebraska

Sherman Field Construction Update: Making Progress!
By JJ Yost, Planning and Construction Manager, Lincoln Parks and Recreation

We received federal funding support for the first phase of construction which consisted of the new ballfield lighting.  The new lighting project was initiated and completed during the off-season between the 2010 and 2011 baseball seasons.

The second phase of construction includes the new dugout structures and maintenance/storage building. The materials and labor involved in this phase of the project were donated by Sampson Construction (to which we are extremely thankful!).

The third phase of construction involves the new restroom building.  We determined that the most cost effective approach to this item is to obtain a pre-fabricated restroom building from a vendor meaning it is essentially built at a factory, shipped to us in multiple pieces and set by crane on to a foundation.  This building will be delivered Oct. 27!

The fourth and final phase of construction is now underway. Between now and the start of baseball season next spring, the contractor will be constructing the remaining improvements that generally consist of the new ticket/concessions building, new concourse and entrance plaza, multiple parking lot improvements (that cannot be started until the completion of the midget football season), site drainage and infrastructure improvements, new perimeter fencing and donor recognition.

I am very much planning on having all construction activities completed next spring!
